Expanding the Heritage Museum project at Kuyilimala near Painavu in Idukki includes addition of recently discovered ancient artifacts, weapons, potteries, iron swords and copper jewellery, belonging to the megalithic era. It is going to be India’s first such museum dedicated to the Stone Age. Murals from the era will also be depicted in the museum.

There are about 80 megalithic sites in various parts of Western Ghats, with a good scattering in Ramakkalmedu, Anjuruli and Memarikudi, Idukki. It is believed that the areas have been trading since the time of the Romans. The museum will be of interest to tourists, both domestic and foreign, as well as for students and researchers.
