With lot of areas yet to be explored, North East India is the emerging hub of tourism in India. This year it has seen a record number of tourists – both domestic and international. The Seven Sisters – as the seven states are known as – are Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Tripura and Mizoram.

While the all-India growth rate was seven per cent in 2010-2011, in the North East the growth rate for foreigners was 6.09 per cent, while in the domestic sector the rate was 8.09 per cent. The influx of foreign tourists has increased after the introduction of visa-on-arrival system.
