Madhya Pradesh has many monuments, palaces and forts – something that tourists look forward to visiting. The Kaliadeh Palace on the banks of River Shipra in Ujjain is one such interesting tourist spot. Both sides of the palace are flanked by the river, rendering an island-like feel.

The central dome of the palace is a grand example of Persian architecture. There are two Persian inscriptions found in a long corridor here that record the visits of Emperor Akbar and Jehangir to this palace. There are also inscriptions that tell of Mahmud Khilji’s reign here – in 1458. The monument was broken down at least twice in history and was restored by Madhav Rao Scindia in 1920. The ruins of a Sun temple and two tanks, the Surya Kunda and the Brahma Kunda, were restored by the family, too.
Tourists can take a taxi from Indore, 55km away. The nearest airport is also located here – Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Airport. Indore is connected to cities such as Jaipur, Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Bhopal and Chennai.
